Field Trip

Opps! I forgot to bring my camera. I took a small group of kids. We went down
Railroad to the PACO summer art show! It was wonderful. Artists from East County
displayed their work. Our own Bobby Nicolas (groundskeeper) had a nice multi media
piece, in the show. On our walk back we meet the owner of the new caviar shop.
He is planning to sell gourmet sandwiches too. There is a new womens shop that sells
clothing and hats. Also, we meet Ray Flores and he gave us t-shirts! They are to
help raise awarness of the California Theater, which he is trying to help rebuild. All in all, a fun, casual fieldtrip.

Ms. Wooley and the girls

Jazmin and Mrs. Fritsch

Field Trip

On Thursday we took our first field trip. We went to Pier 39 and Aquarium by the Sea! We hiked, we saw sharks, rock cod, crabs
and jellyfish. We had lunch everywhere and anywhere. We walked from Bart! Ms. Wooley and I took 34 kids. However, 33
came back. Oh well, sometimes kids make the wrong choices and decide they really don't want to follow Mrs. Fritsch's and
the school rules. No more field trips for our MIA student and of course, a five day suspension. We were joined by my mom and
Tom who bought a very tired Ms. Wooley, and a very crabby Mrs. Fritsch lunch at Boudin's. Yeah!

The Army visits room 15

Hollander in his HOT classroom

Go Army.Com

Today we had had the Army Recruiters! They are such great speakers. Returning
this year is Sgt. De Jesus. She really works well with our kids. I had a long talk
with her about her experiences in Iraq and mine in Jordan. We both think that the image of the Middle East, as portrayed by the media, is so off base. Her conculusion:
"these people(Iraqis) just want to raise their families in peace". Amen to that! I have great respect for our soldiers. It is their Commander-in -Chief that I have a problem with!
It seemed to me that our students were really interested and engaged. Even
if they don't want to join the army they are thinking about their lives and goals
after RHS. That is a good thing.

API

Yeah! We just got the good news. The 06-07 API scores were published and we went
up 71 points. The superintendent is bringing us cake on Friday! Yeah! Let them eat
cake. Never mind that the A/C was out in most rooms, never mind that the teachers'
computers are older than our students and never mind that we have no handicapp access
and that my carpet is held together with duct tape! Its time for cake.
